School R had a good reputation and estate agents advertised houses as being in its catchment area. One family moved into the catchment area, as advised by an estate agent, incurring a hardly sustainable increase in their mortgage. It transpired admissions’ criteria prioritised sibling links over geographical proximity to the school. In fact there was no geographical catchment system in operation, proximity from school was measured according to transport arrangements. However, the parents did get their child into their chosen school. This was because the school’s reputation was out of date and it moved from being an over to undersubscwith its provision and moved their child to a ribed quickly. After a year at the school, the parents were dissatisfied school they had previously not considered
